Blockade the City's Streets
The blockade closes the road but opens the way
“If you go to one demonstration and then go home, that’s
something, but the people in power can live with that. What they
can’t live with is sustained pressure that keeps building,
organisations that keep doing things, people that keep learning
lessons from the last time and doing it better the next time.”
Noam Chomsky
Stop the Traffic
Actions planned for Friday 21 March:
Bring Manchester to a halt during rush hour by blockading local road junctions! It only takes a few gridlocked roads to shut the city down and send a clear message that this war is not in our name.
- Cheetham Hill Crescent Road outside Abraham Moss College, 12.30am
- Denton 7.30am. A57 towards Denton, pedestrian-controlled traffic lights across A57/M60/M67 junction and M60 slip road. Press the button, wait for the green man, cross the road. Then go back again. And again. And again. Entirely legal and highly effective - could have repercussions all round the M60.
- Hulme Asda traffic lights, 7.30am
- Longsight A6 by Longsight Market, 8.30am
- University Precinct, Oxford Road 8am
- Manchester University Students Union 1pm
- North Manchester General Hospital 12.30am at Gates
- Whalley Range 8am meet at the Whalley Pub
By disrupting the working of the city we are stopping business from
carrying on as usual while the government wages a war the people
don’t want. Whether protesting for peace, for democracy, against
the overuse of oil, for Palestine or simply for common sense, join
the blockade in your local area.
How to Blockade your Street
Barricading or blockading a road can be as simple or as
complicated as you want. From a sit-down protest to using chains
and bike locks - there are numerous options. If you are in a band
bring your instruments, if you just want to make a noise bring pots
and pans to bang, if you’ve been doing a vigil then move it into the
road.
