Halfords Stops Monkeying About

As reported in the last issue, animal rights groups were outraged at Halfords, the cycle and car part retailer, using chimpanzees in a TV commercial aka the old PG Tips commercials with its portrayal of chimps dressed in clothes and acting as humans. Manchester Animal Protection and other animal rights campaigners from the North West held a day of action against Halfords on Thursday 10 July with demos all around Greater Manchester. These attracted a positive response from the public and Halfords staff alike with many people being disgusted at the way in which Halfords are taking a large step backwards in terms of animal welfare.

Due to actions such as this around the country and many writing to the Independent TV Commission (ITC), Halfords have now said they will not be using chimps in commercials again.
