The bookfair took over the ground floor of the mill drawing in stallholders from across the north (with representatives from Newcastle, Preston, Leeds and Liverpool) as well as a number of stalls from London.
Meanwhile the upstairs exhibition space was given over to a series of workshops covering a diverse range of topics: from "What is Power?" to a "hands on" workshop showing how to get involved in Manchester Indymedia.
"The aim of the day", says David, one of the bookfair organisers "is to act as a showcase for radical groups and ideas. The bookfair is about promoting ideas outside party politics and covers anarchism, peace, direct action and social change".
"It's a great place for people to find out what is going on locally and nationally, to meet and share ideas. This year was the biggest yet in terms of the number of stalls present. Buying radical publications and books in Manchester is increasingly difficult as there is now no longer a radical bookstore in the city. It was great to have News from Nowhere Radical Bookshop come over from Liverpool with a large selection of their stock."
We are already thinking about the next event in December this year. If people are interested in getting involved they can contact the organisers at [email protected] or visit their website for more information
