Plane Crazy

Despite its recent proclaimations towards more sustainable energy production in the recent white paper, the Government is continuing to follow a "predict and provide" agenda for one of the most gas-guzzling, climate-distabilising, and biodiversity-decimating industries going. Massive plans for aviation expansion (third runway for manchester?) would see a completely unsustainable rise in the flights, totally at odds with global efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emission. Campaigners are calling for heavier taxation of aviation and more support for highspeed land-based alternatives to flight.

Should our oil supply be broken, which it will have to be eventually, we have about three days worth of food in the shops. What does this say about the sanity or otherwise of building more and more runways so that we can become more and more dependent on oversees trade for our survival?
