The Networking Newsletter has a multi-decade (since 1994) history of helping campaigners in and around Manchester to work together more effectively. The focus is on those who are working for positive change on issues of peace, development, environment, human rights, animal rights and other areas of social justice. The Networking Newsletter is part of the "Networking Newsletter Project" which puts people in Manchester working on issues of peace, environment, development, animal rights and human rights in touch with each other. The project also helps develop networks and skills for more effective campaigning.
Below, is the most comprehensive list of Greater Manchester campaigners you'll find, but don't forget you can also search our site or events archive:
Note that this will not return recent additions (and will rank by popularity not by date - be careful you don't read last year's events!) so please go direct to the netnews-ACTION email archives
This is the comprehensive contacts list of campaigning groups in Manchester.

Manchester Against Casualisation Campaign Many workers have experienced the misery of working for a job agency, a misery that nets £12-14 billion a year for agency bosses. Few industries are unaffected although the majority of agency workers are in service industries like IT, telesales, call centres and clerical work. Casual, insecure work isn't limited to agency workers. All jobs are less secure in the drive for a "flexible labour market". Short and fixed-term contracts are becoming the norm with casual workers employed beside "permanent" workers as the bosses try to divide and rule. Recent statistics suggest there are now around 1.8 million temporary workers in Britain. All workers - whether students or unemployed; temporary or permanent; low paid or long serving - can only gain from a campaign against casualisation. Such resistance has the potential to extend to a more general fightback around issues like health and safety, and can ultimately help to bring back some sorely needed workplace organisation PO Box 29, S.W. Plastic Bag Free Chorlton Already the Sustainable Chorlton Group (formerly known as Chorlton Fair trade and Food Group) campaigned to get Chorlton Fair trade status in 2006. Since then they have researched and published a report called "Chorlton Eats" funded by Food Futures, Manchester City Council, which recommends how to encourage and widen the production and purchase of local, organic and fairly traded food by different communities in Chorlton. Now Sustainable Chorlton has started a new campaign for a plastic bag free Chorlton. Annually 8 billion plastic bags are used in the UK alone, that's 166 bags per person per year and on average we use a plastic bag for 12 minutes. However the bags will last indefinitely and pollute the countryside, rivers and seas. Plastic bag pollution is completely unnecessary. 50 years ago, plastic shopper bags did not exist and no-one missed them. Let's say "No to plastic bags in Chorlton".

Society for Abandoned Animals We rescue, care for and rehome cats, dogs and rabbits. We also have 3 charity shops - Timperley village, Barlow Moor Rd in Chorlton, and Levenshulme High Street. We are always desperate for volunteers too! On average we rehome 500 cats a year, 80 dogs and 60 rabbits - we are really quite a large sanctuary and always have loads of animals waiting for adoption. We are also unique in that we do homechecks for all the dogs and rabbits, and conduct thorough interviews on people wishing to adopt cats. We also keep animals for life if a suitable home can not be found - we only ever euthanise an animal under veterinary advice. Trafford is my Planet The Trafford is my Planet website gives the opportunity to show how the people of Trafford are doing their bit to make a difference. In local neighbourhoods and in our homes, what seem like small changes in behaviour will actually make a huge difference. This campaign is promoting that it is the people who have the power to make a real and dramatic change. Every time we boil a kettle, leave a TV on standby or drive a car, we use energy. The more we use, the more greenhouse gases we create and the more we change the world's climate. Trafford Council are supporting the Manchester is my Planet campaign as part of the Green Energy Revolution for climate change.
The main elements to the project are:
production of a regular "Networking Newsletter" containing information and updates on local and global campaigns, a colour clash avoidance calendar, details of relevant training and support, and a up-to-date contacts list.
acting as a clearing house for resources of interest to members of the Project.
organisation of campaign training sessions for people to share skills in campaigning and in networking.
