These are exciting times for the Campaign to Protect Rural England. As a result of Lottery funding we have just embarked on a three year project designed to give the people of Manchester a real voice in the shaping of their community. People say they don't know how to protect their green spaces from the curse of concrete. They want to decide for themselves where they should live and in what type of housing. They want a cheap, clean and integrated public transport system which caters for everyone, including the disabled. In other words, they want a decent quality of life.
You may be surprised that CPRE is involved in these issues, but we train our volunteers free of charge to deliver all these things. We are a national campaigning charity which is respected by government, regional and local authorities. We punch our weight, but without local support, we don't know where the problems are!
You can help us make a difference. Join with us in the formation of our new Manchester District Group. You don't need expertise and we don't want your money, but we do need your enthusiasm.
If you are a member of a voluntary group with concerns about your city, we'll be interested to liaise with you. You may wish to have a representative on our new committee. Come along and tell us!
We'll be meeting again at 7.00pm on Thursday April 17th at the Town Hall Tavern on Tib Lane (1 minute's walk from Albert Square). This meeting will decide on the starting makeup of our committee and will lay plans for our official launch.
Call Peter Mallon on 01772 456181 or email peterm@lancashirecpre.freeserve.co.uk if you'd like to discuss any aspect of this notice or just to let us know you'll be coming, or come along on the night.
