Community TV Cancelled

The Manchester and Salford Community TV has withdrawn its application to the ITC for the RSL licence for Manchester due to unspecified events that happened in mid-May. A lot of hard work was put in by a lot of people to get the bid off the ground and it is unfortunate that the process ended before it had really begun.

Stephen Kingston, the main force driving the bid, added, "Having spent three months working on this bid I do not believe that a genuine community tv station with proper access, empowerment and job creation is possible given the current terms that the authorities impose on potential broadcasters. These terms led us into alliances that in the end proved untenable. All we wanted to do was to give voice, face and soul to the communities of Manchester and Salford. Cultural fair trade is a long way off. I would like to thank everyone who contributed towards the project for their time, letters of support and advice."
