Don't Mess with our Water

photo: campaigners at the anti-fluoridation meeting At the end of September, Manchester Green Party called a public meeting to discuss fluoridation of water. But why oppose fluoridation? According to the organizators, it's a massive infringement of human rights and carries massive health risks, just to prevent what the Government's own review found to be just 0.4 fillings for each child. Most if not all other European countries are moving away from fluoridation, most recently the Swiss in May ended it after decades. Some MPs are opposed to water fluoridation, but all of Manchester's are in favour. Last time there was a vote in 1985, no fewer than 399 MPs abstained, but those in favour narrowly exceeded those prepared to say "no" to the "received wisdom" (propaganda which since 1985 has received a boost of £100,000 per year from UK taxpayers!)

The meeting drew up an action plan which includes lobbying Manchester City Council - more details to follow.
