Car Club: Car Club is people in the community organising to provide themselves with affordable access to reliable vehicles. It is a vehicle pool, and members own a share in the vehicle they choose. There are currently shares available for a 1987 Toyota H1-ACE diesel panel van. The van is available for hire to shareholders from £3.20 per day used. Exchange Directory: The Exchange Directory is a local publication, listing offers and requests of goods and services for individuals, organisations and businesses in central districts of Manchester. The Directory is produced not for profit, by the Exchange Bureau in Hulme, with the purpose of stimulating local trade and supporting community organisations. From their web site you can register on-line with the Exchange Bureau and include your offers and requests in future editions all for free, attain a boxed advert to promote your business or organisation and receive free future publications of the directory. "The Environment in Your Pocket" - Key trends and other statistics on the environment over recent years, presented for easy accessibility with more than 50 key data series covering the global atmosphere, air quality, inland water quality and use, coastal and marine waters, radioactivity, noise, waste and recycling, land use and land cover, and wildlife.
Disability Library Resources: Breakthrough UK has decided that material about disability issues, rights and legal information which it holds should be made available and used by all. The library has information in a variety of formats including books, videos, info packs, CDs, audio cassettes and Braille. They also have a computer with a large screen monitor, TV and video player, audio cassette player/recorder and a document magnifier. Environmental Resource and Information Centre - Manchester ERIC (Environmental Resource & Information Centre) - "an exciting opportunity to browse through a wide range of environmental material including: reference material, videos, CD ROMs, displays, free leaflets, events information and the opportunity to view live air quality information" (from Council flier). Global Express - series of "rapid response" teaching materials for teachers at KS 2 and 3, looking at world events in the news. This is a subscription series costing £15 for six editions of Global Express together with an introductory pack "Tune into the News". Each edition consists of six pages for the teacher full of background information, pictures and direct quotes. There is also a 4-page pull out section of photocopiable activities for use in the classroom. The edition in preparation at the moment is on the crisis in Argentina. Some of the subjects we have covered recently have been Terrorism, Protest, Israel & Palestine and Livestock farming. Granada Action - a thirty second TV programme dedicated to helping you get your group's message across, eg to inform people about your group or to get new volunteers. Jobs - now you can find environmental jobs, including voluntary work, online at http://www.environmentjob.co.uk. This project, set up by a former Unicorn Grocery member, also allows environmental organisations, however small, to advertize nationally. Also has a free weekly update!
