The local Green Party has grown from small beginnings in the early 1990s to a thriving and active group of members and supporters. We stand candidates in local and parliamentary elections, and are attempting to build our profile within the diverse communities which make up the borough. We have campaigned in the past on issues affecting local residents, including the preservation of green spaces and routes as well as the siting of mobile phone masts. The area is moving on from its industrial past and in our small way we are trying to ensure that people and their communities within Tameside make that move in a sustainable way. Tameside Green Patry meet every third Tuesday of the month. Currently we are meeting at Q Bar, Stalybridge.

- Manchester Against Casualisation Campaign
Many workers have experienced the misery of working for a job agency, a misery that nets £12-14 billion a year for agency bosses. Few industries are unaffected although the majority of agency workers are in service industries like IT, telesales, call centres and clerical work. Casual, insecure work isn't limited to agency workers. All jobs are less secure in the drive for a "flexible labour market". Short and fixed-term contracts are becoming the norm with casual workers employed beside "permanent" workers as the bosses try to divide and rule. Recent statistics suggest there are now around 1.8 million temporary workers in Britain. All workers - whether students or unemployed; temporary or permanent; low paid or long serving - can only gain from a campaign against casualisation. Such resistance has the potential to extend to a more general fightback around issues like health and safety, and can ultimately help to bring back some sorely needed workplace organisation

- Society for Abandoned Animals
We rescue, care for and rehome cats, dogs and rabbits. We also have 3 charity shops - Timperley village, Barlow Moor Rd in Chorlton, and Levenshulme High Street. We are always desperate for volunteers too! On average we rehome 500 cats a year, 80 dogs and 60 rabbits - we are really quite a large sanctuary and always have loads of animals waiting for adoption. We are also unique in that we do homechecks for all the dogs and rabbits, and conduct thorough interviews on people wishing to adopt cats. We also keep animals for life if a suitable home can not be found - we only ever euthanise an animal under veterinary advice.
