Tackling Climate Change

If you've been thinking about how you can make a personal contribution towards tackling climate change then you'll be pleased to know that due to a number of grant schemes from the Government you can now get fully involved in the renewable energy revolution by installing them in your own home or office.

Solar PV grant

Substantial grants are available towards the installation of solar electricity (photovoltaic) equipment, whether for householders, businesses (including NGOs) or social housing groups. Grants are available worth 40-65% of total installation costs and can be applied for on-line. For more information about the way the scheme works and, indeed, for anyone looking to apply for a grant, you can find more info from the Energy Savings Trust

Other grants for small scale renewables

If you're more interested in small scale wind, solar heating, biomass or hydro for you or your local community then you can visit http://www.clear-skies.org for more information about the grants available.

The good news is that later this year the rules about how much money you can get from your supplier for any spare electricity generate (net-metering) will change meaning that these grants could give you economic as well as environmental benefits

Warm Front

Grants are also available to those on low income with either children or disabled people, particularly the "Warm Front" grant which provides a package, up to the value of œ1500, of energy efficiency and heating measures specifically tailored to your needs.

Helping Hands

Manchester Care and Repair (0161 872 5500) are offering interest-free loans to pay for energy efficiency measures (double glazing, insulation etc) to anybody who wants one.
